Founded in 2005 by Tesfaye Bekele, Suke Kuto started with just five hectares of coffee grown under a lush forest canopy. Today, the farm spans 221 hectares, supported by 171 smallholder farmers who bring their beans for processing. After a local bushfire, Tesfaye helped restore the forest by distributing coffee and shade-tree seeds, creating a thriving, sustainable ecosystem. His dedication to organic farming means every tree benefits from nutrient-rich mulch made from leaf litter, coffee pulp, and pruning waste, while young plants are carefully nurtured in his coffee-tree nursery until ready for planting. This almost fully circular approach, from seedlings to mulch to trees, produces coffees that are not only flavorful but also 100% organic and Rainforest Alliance certified, making Suke Kuto one of Ethiopia’s most celebrated coffee origins.
